Founding Member Backgrounds

Graduated from Khalsa College, India in 1977. Migrated to USA & embarked on learning the grocery industry. In 1982 he opened first Stop ‘N’ Save convenience grocery store. Mr. Kapoor acquired a competing 22-store chain of Bonfare Markets. Currently President of Stop ‘N’ Save, Inc. and Chairman/CEO of Bonfare Markets, Inc. with 34 locations. Mr. Kapoor is TIE Charter Member.

Jagjeet S. Kapoor

Migrated to USA in 1976. Worked as a restaurant manager and attended college in Mississippi. In 1980 moved to California to start his own venture of Convenience stores. He later expanded to hotels, restaurants, gas stations and real estate. Over 30 years of Convenience stores and gas stations experience, prompted him to educate & empower others to grow. Mr. Sethi is always looking for new challenges, is highly active and volunteers his time and resources to local community projects such as the Hindu Temple of Fresno, Crime Stoppers of Fresno, Clovis Unified School District, Interfaith Alliance of the Central Valley, and the Fresno Police Advisory Board. He also serves on the Board of Directors for The Security First Bank of Fresno.

Jeetander P. Sethi

Alumni and ex Professor of Genco (Guru Nanak Engineering College, Ludhiana India).Worked as Director, Supplier Engineering at Harmonic Inc. Principal Engineer at IBM Corp. Presently managing gas stations in the Bay area and central valley. Well regarded in the local business community and for its development. Involved in religious projects of Sikh temple, San Jose.

Manraj Natt

Mr. Kowtha came to the United States in 1990. He is a licensed Contractor with Masters in Civil Engineering and worked for a large consulting firm in San Jose, California. In 1999, Mr. Kowtha started Stratus Environmental, Inc., a full-service environmental engineering and consulting firm with offices in Sacramento, Huntington Beach, Ventura and Carson City. Stratus has been serving clients throughout Northern and Southern California for more than 17 years to Oil companies, independent retailers, public agencies, Fortune 500 corporations, school districts, municipalities, land development companies, and small businesses in 33 counties of California, Nevada and all over USA.

Gowri S. Kowtha

Graduate from USC in Computer Engineering. He has been a serial entrepreneur, started several companies in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Publishing, Semiconductor, Internet and Petroleum. His varied background from different industries gives him unique perspective to see existing businesses and identify their hidden potential. This expertise helped Sanjiv grow his company as one of the fastest growing company in America for seven years in a raw in an industry with no growth. Sanjiv, a San Jose resident for almost 13 years has business interests throughout the Bay area. He is a big proponent of small businesses and passionate about helping fellow small business owners.

Sanjiv Patel

Graduate in communications from the University of Southern California. Dhaliwal & Associates owns and operates a small chain of Chevron gas stations with Extra Mile C-stores. Additionally, the family-owned company also operates several hotels, QSRs and a classic car dealership. Apart from serving on APCA Board, he serves on the Boards of several other industry organizations, the California Independent Oil Marketers Association (CIOMA), the Pacific Oil Conference (POC) and the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS). He is also a past president of the California Service Station and Auto Repair Association (CSSARA).

Dee Dhaliwal

Worked as Financial Consultant with a Private Company contracted with two Major Utilities in Southern California. Franchisee of 7-Eleven, Member 7-Eleven "PLC" (Presidents Leadership Council) Board, 6 years as member of 7-Eleven "CEO Roundtable", President, Central Valley 7-Eleven Franchise Owners Association. Dealer of Chevron, 76, ARCO and am/pm, Valero and Shell brands. Executive Vice Chairman of NCASEF of 5500+ members. Current Chairman of APCA.


Began his career at Hewlett Packard in 1983, and his responsibilities included, Risk Management, Environmental, Health and Safety for five sites and over 12 thousand employees worldwide. Member of Hewlett Packard's worldwide training and Education Council (one of ten members for 120,000 employees); Wendy's of the Pacific Inc., 2002 to Current, CEO, responsibilities include operating multiple facilities, President of Nor Cal DMA, Trustee of Wendy's National Advertisement Program, Franchisee for BP, Arco, and T-Mobile. Founding Board member for Tri-Valley Bank, Founding Board member of Old Fashioned Franchise Association (Franchise association for Wendy's), Founding Board member Service Station Franchise Association (Arco BP Franchise Association), Board Member of California Business and Industrial Alliance, Board member of Alameda County Fair Foundation. Founding Board Member of American Petroleum and Convenient Store Association. Past Chairman of APCA.
